QUESTION: I understand that I use the same brick, and block over and over again, while taking this course, but what about the mud (mortar). Do I throw it away every day?
ANSWER: No! You use the mud over and over again, until you finish the ocurse. The mud you use has no portland cement in it, therefore it does not get hard. Portland Cement is what makes mortar get hard, and gives it it's strength. That is why the mud you use taking this course does not get hard. Every day you simple add water to it, and use it over, and over again, until you finish the ocurse. One wheelbarrow full is all you need to take the entire Master Mason Course. My suggestion after you finish the course is put some portland cement in your mud, take the brick, and block you have been practicing with, and go build a planter or mailbox with it. Laying brick is like teaching a child to sit up, crawl, stand up, walk, walk faster, run, run faster. You cannot take a child when they first stand up, and make them run. This is common sense. This course will put you on the job, WALKING SLOW, and you starting pay will be 30-50% of Journeyman's pay.

When you complete this course, you will get a job as an Apprentice / Improver Bricklayer, any where in the world you choose to live. Your hourly pay will be between $12.00 and $22.00 per hour, depending where in the USA/Canada, you live. Wages are lower in the South, and higher in the Northern States, however you work more hours per year in the South, than you do in the Northern States. Then of course up north when it gets cold they just cover the project, and heat it, so all trades can work all year long.

You will be earning close to 30-50% of what the Journeyman Bricklayer on your job is earning with in a year, or leass. However you should be getting $1.00-$3.00 hourly raises, every 2-8 weeks. This raise is somthing you may have to ask your foreman or contractor to give you. The way you know when it is time for you to ask for a raise, is when you are laying as many brick, or more than the bricklayers you are working with on the job who are receiving more money than you per hour.
